Privacy Policy
MapScout is designed with privacy as a first principle. We run no servers. Your data never leaves your device.
The short version
- All lead data is stored in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) — never on our servers.
- We operate no servers, databases, or tracking infrastructure.
- Your OpenRouter API key is stored only on your device and is only ever sent to openrouter.ai.
- Lead data collected from Google Maps is publicly visible business information.
- You can delete all data at any time from the Settings → Data panel.
1. Who We Are
MapScout is a Chrome browser extension developed and sold by Onliverse Agency. Contact: onliverse.agency@gmail.com.
This Privacy Policy explains how MapScout handles information when you use the extension. It applies to the Chrome extension only, not to any third-party services the extension connects to.
2. Data Stored on Your Device
MapScout stores all user data exclusively in chrome.storage.local — a sandboxed local storage area provided by Chrome that persists on your device and is not accessible to websites or other extensions.
Lead data — Business name, category, rating, review count, address, phone number, website URL, booking status, price tier, and scoring data captured from Google Maps listings you view or scrape. This is publicly available information displayed on Google Maps.
Website audit results — Technical details gathered from target business websites (platform, copyright year, form presence, SSL status, social links, etc.). This is publicly visible information that any web browser can access.
AI-generated outreach — Cold emails, follow-ups, LinkedIn messages, and SMS messages generated by the AI. Stored locally so you can access them again without re-generating.
Your profile settings — Name, agency name, service description, pitch angle, price range, and target customer — used only to personalise AI outreach prompts.
Your OpenRouter API key — Stored locally in chrome.storage.local. It is sent directly from your browser to openrouter.ai when you generate outreach. It is never sent to MapScout or any service we control.
Activity logs — Session logs showing what the extension did (scraping progress, audit results, errors). Capped at 500 entries and stored locally. Used only for your own debugging visibility.
3. Data We Do Not Collect
MapScout does not collect, transmit, or store any data on external servers. Specifically:
- We do not collect analytics on how you use the extension
- We do not track which leads you capture or which businesses you contact
- We do not log your API key or outreach content anywhere we can access
- We do not use cookies
- We do not build profiles on end-users of your outreach
- We run no servers that receive data from the extension at runtime
4. Third-Party Services
OpenRouter (openrouter.ai) — When you click “Generate AI Outreach,” the extension sends a prompt directly from your browser to the OpenRouter API. This prompt includes your service profile and the lead’s business details. OpenRouter’s own privacy policy governs how they handle this data. We recommend reviewing openrouter.ai/privacy.
Google Maps — The extension reads publicly visible data from Google Maps pages you visit. The extension operates within Chrome’s normal browser context; all requests go through your browser under your IP address. MapScout has no affiliation with Google.
Target business websites — The website audit feature opens business websites in background browser tabs and reads their public HTML to perform the 25-point analysis. No data from those websites is sent to MapScout — it is stored locally in chrome.storage.local.
5. Data Deletion
You are in full control of all stored data. To delete everything:
- Open the MapScout side panel
- Go to Settings → Data
- Click “Clear All Data” to permanently delete all leads, logs, and settings
You can also uninstall the extension from Chrome, which removes all chrome.storage.local data associated with MapScout.
6. GDPR and Legal Basis
If you are in the European Economic Area, the following applies:
MapScout processes no personal data on any server under our control, so most GDPR obligations regarding data controllers do not apply to us in the traditional sense. The data the extension handles stays on your device.
The lead data collected from Google Maps consists of business contact information (phone numbers, emails, addresses) that is publicly displayed on Google Maps. If you use this data to contact businesses, you are the data controller for that communication and should ensure it complies with applicable laws in your jurisdiction, including GDPR, CAN-SPAM, and CASL.
7. Children's Privacy
MapScout is a professional business tool intended for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
