Common issues
Side panel doesn't open
Make sure you're on a google.com/maps page. The side panel only activates on Google Maps. Reload the Maps tab after installing the extension, then click the MapScout icon in the toolbar.
No leads appearing in passive mode
Click into a listing (not just hover). The trigger is a URL change to /maps/place/... Check the Logs tab — "Lead Finder connected" confirms the content script is running. If absent, reload the Maps tab.
"No results found" during auto-scrape
You need an active search with results visible. Navigate to Google Maps, type a search query, wait for the results panel to appear, then click Start Scrape.
"Could not reach Google Maps tab" error
Reload the Google Maps tab and try again. The content script needs a moment to initialize after each page load.
Website audit shows "audit failed"
The site didn't load within 15 seconds. Common causes: slow servers, Cloudflare-protected sites, or sites requiring JavaScript interaction. The audit reads static HTML only. Check the Logs tab for the specific error message.
AI outreach: "OpenRouter 404"
The model ID is no longer available on the free tier. Open Settings → AI and select a different model, or leave it blank to use the default. Current free models are listed at openrouter.ai/models?q=free.
AI outreach: "All free models failed"
Free models have per-minute rate limits. Wait 30–60 seconds and retry. Or add $5 credit to your OpenRouter account and switch to a paid model like claude-haiku or gpt-4o-mini in Settings → AI.
AI outreach: "Invalid API key" (401 error)
Your OpenRouter API key is incorrect. Check openrouter.ai/settings/keys — the key should start with sk-or-. Re-copy the key and paste it into Settings → AI → OpenRouter API Key, then click Save.
Missing data after Chrome restart
The extension uses chrome.storage.local which persists across restarts. Check chrome://extensions → MapScout → Details → Storage to confirm data is there. If it is, reload the side panel by closing and reopening it.
Rating or review count not extracting
Google periodically updates Maps class names. The Logs tab shows which field failed. This is the most common breakage point after Google Maps UI updates. Contact support (below) and we'll push a selector fix.
CAPTCHA blocking extraction
Running many extractions quickly can trigger bot detection. When a CAPTCHA appears, the tab is brought to the foreground — solve it manually and extraction resumes. Reduce concurrency by enabling passive mode instead of auto-scrape.
Still stuck?
Email us with your Chrome version, a description of the issue, and a screenshot of the Logs tab if possible.
